RE: Advice on our first Class C purchase

Be sure to buy your second motorhome FIRST. We have a very old motorhome and we love it. If I was going to sink 30-40 K into one, I would make sure that it is what I would want in a couple years from now.

RE: Roof A/C Airflow ?

I sealed up all the holes in the floor and it really helped with our dust level in our moho. I used the spray expandable foam. I got two paint lights and put them inside. Then I crawled under at night to see where the light was coming through.

RE: Quick and easy using fresh peaches?

We freeze our peaches, and everything, laid out on cookie sheets in one layer. When frozen solid, we then put into freezer bags. This seems to keep the excess moisture out and we have alot less freezer burn this way... less moisture to crystalize on the surface.
We used to make our own baby food....especailly when the twins came along! They gobbled up frozen peach puree and then later just loosely mashed. Freezing on cookie sheets first helps alot.

RE: how /what do you cook while camping

Our first night is usually "Take-n-Bake" pizzas we buy. We also did something fun last time. We bought frozen pizzas at a convenience store and grilled them. We put foil on the grill spryed with cooking no-stick spray and cooked at low to med. heat. They turned out great and the kids got a kick out of it.
We eat alot of the same food as home.

RE: Must See's and Eat's in Phoenix

We lived in Phoenix for a year, BK (before kids) :)
Our two favorite eating establishments were:
Sahuaro Cafe
9158 W, Pierce
Tolleson, AZ 85353
623-936-3413, I would call first. This was in a neighborhood setting. Very authentic and very good. 50+ years in business and basically in the front of their house. A long drive west but worth it.
6003 N 16th St
Phoenix, AZ 85016
(602) 248-7827
TEXAZ Grille This place is divey, but GOOD. The outright best chicken-fried steak I have had (sorry Mom). We go here every time we are in Phoenix. Plus they have alot of cool stuff on the walls and ceilings and COLD beer.
We always take a trip up to Sedona. Go up the interstate and then go back down to Phoeniz via Cottonwood, Jerome (very cool town during the day, beautiful scenery and cool bars), Prescott, and Wickenburg.
Have fun!!

RE: Propane at 10,500' Will it Flow?

In Colorado there are many places at high altitudes that still use propane. Many of the ski areas have ski patrol huts, ski lift attendant buildings, etc., that use propane for their heat source.
At some places, like Arapahoe Basin, 10,500 feet is the elevation of the bottom of the ski area.
ahhhhhhhhh, the Basin! Love it. Pure joy.

RE: dry ice question

I think you would have better results with block ice and you could probably skip the dry ice. Chip off what you need when the time comes.
good advice but is block ice still available "easily"?
bumpy
We buy block ice every trip we take. We use one big block in our 5 gallon "Home Depot' water cooler. We find it at most places that sell regular ice.

RE: Can Coleman lamp be used inside pup?

They can be used safely inside, if caution is used with respect to proper ventilation. They do get hot above the lantern (ever grabbed the handle that wasn't pushed down? I have!) Gas buring lights have been used indoors for a long time. Not all that long ago, many RVs came with propane lights.
Having said that, We choose to use the gas lantern outside and battery operated one inside our RV.
If you do use it, I would build a base or hanging bracket that will ensure it won't get tipped over. That alone will keep, imho, about 80% of the chances for an accident away.

A ray of hope - Niemeyer Trailer Sales - Elko, MN

My neighbor across the street just purchased a PUP....a very large one. 14 feet I believe. Well, as we all know this is a very heavy PUP and after the purchase was made, my neighbor was told that he could not tow this traler away from this dealer with the truck he had. It is a small SUV and just not up to the task of towing a very large and heavy PUP safely. The dealer said he would not allow it and would gladly refund the purchase price or sell him a smaller trailer.
My neighbor went and bought a used truck with a WD hitch and it seems all is well. I just thought this was worth posting because this seems to go against the normal "sell it and forget it" mentality that far too many dealers have. Niemeyer's is in Elko, MN, about 1 mile west of I-35, south of the Twin Cities and in Maple Grove, MN about 2 miles west of the I-94/I-494 junction in the northwest corner of the Twin Cities.

RE: Always be alert when you stop at a highway rest area

We are so thankful that MN passed the Minnesota Citizens Personal Protection Act 2003. Criminals in MN have in the back of their heads that the person just may have a gun. I know many women, age 30-50, that have the permit and carry. This act, has been tested in court and thankfully, now conforms with some minor adjustments.
I love the fact that if my wife and kids are out and about, a criminal will always wonder if she just might blow his/her head clean off.... I pray to God this never happens, but in these times of so much widespread violent crime, we feel it is needed.
To the OP, we feel safer overnighting at WM, FJ,or other big box stores.

RE: Ever been snubbed or ashamed because of your RV?

Just the other day we were at a friend's house at a pool party. One of their neighbor's asked us where we lived. I told him just down the street. We are the one with a cedar fence along a busy road in our 'burb. I also told him that we had a 1977 motorhome sitting next to our house. He thought that I was saying that our neighbor had the motorhome, and made a 'snobby' face and some stupid comment. I smiled and said, "It is our motorhome and we love it."
He promptly took his foot out of his mouth and he and his wife and kids left soon after. My wife and I just laughed it off. No harm no foul. Love that Eleanor Roosevelt quote.
Another time my son, then 8, and I were outside talking about what we needed to do to the moho and I said that I was going to paint the rear bumper. He said, "No Dad, if you get rid of the rust spots then no one will be able to tell it is "vintage!" I laughed and said, "You're right, Nick. We'll leave it so people can tell" Got to love the honesty of an 8 year-old.
Our beautiful (to us at least) Moho will keep its rust spots on the bumper... It may be a bit rusty, but we keep it clean. Just like our house.... it may be a bit messy and not as picked up as I would like, but it is clean.

your decision... my kids wouldn't go without their fuzz butt. Although my wife usually follows in the van on our short weekend trips and I send the kids with her and Brandy comes with me :)
